Daglo Discusses with UNITAMS Chief Peace Issues, Political Transformation, Developments in Chad

First Vice President (FVP) of the Transitional Sovereign Council, 1st lt. Gen. Mohammed Hamdan Daglo has received in his office at the Republican Palace, the chief of the UNITAMS, Dr. Volker Perthes in the presence of the head of the national committee for coordination with the mission, Ambassador Omer Al-Sheikh.

The meeting discussed the process of Juba peace agreement implementation, the participation of the signatories in the government and the means of including the non-signatories to the peace process.

FVP affirmed during the meeting the cooperation between the transitional government components, pointing out to the serious steps in completing the structures of the transitional authorities, besides the formation of the forces of protecting the civilians in Darfur, besides the implementation of peace agreement items, clarifying that that delay in implementation wad due to some difficulties which the parties are endeavoring to resolve it, emphasizing the importance of coordination between the government institutions and the UNITAMS.

For his part UNITMS chief, Dr. Volker Perthes briefed the FVP on the mission of UNITAMS, affirming their commitment provide the required assistance to the transitional government to accomplish the political transition and assisting in capacity-building.

Volker expressed UNITAMS readiness to provide all the possible assistance to implement the security arrangements item especially on training.

Meanwhile, the meeting discussed the developments in Chad following the death of President Idriss Debby and the clashes which are continuing between the government and the opposition forces and its impact on the situations in Sudan and the area. The two sides affirmed the importance of pacification to preserve the stability in Chad.
