His Excellency the minister of Foreign Affairs meets with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration On the sidelines of his participation in the World Refugee Forum, H. E. Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Ali al-Sadiq Ali met today, Thursday, December 14, at the IOM headquarters in Geneva, with Ms. Amy Pope, director general of the organization. The minister expressed the deep thanks and appreciation of the government and the people of the Sudan for the efforts of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in responding to the complex humanitarian conditions experienced by the Sudanese people as a result of the war waged by the Janjaweed militia against the Sudan and its people, and to enhance the level of the humanitarian response plan in Sudan and neighboring countries, expressing concern about the lack of funding for this plan. He also stressed that Sudan relies a lot on the organization in urging the international community to increase funding to meet the major challenges faced by Sudan in these circumstances, as well as on the role of the organization in responding and finding solutions to the large numbers of displaced, reviewing the critical living conditions faced by host communities, which bear the heaviest burden in light of the fragile economic conditions in the states and infrastructure unprepared to host large numbers of forcibly displaced. For her part, Mrs. Amy Pope welcomed the minister’s visit, expressing her deep appreciation to the government of Sudan, which has been cooperating and facilitating the work of humanitarian organizations. She stressed that the organization places Sudan at the top of its list of priorities and seeks to mobilize the necessary support from donors. Released on December 14, 2023
