Lt. Gen. Dagalo and Dr. Machar Discuss the Implementation of South Sudan Peace Agreement

Juba 12/08/2022 – The Vice-President of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant-General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, and the First Vice-President of the Republic of South Sudan, Dr. Riek Machar, discussed the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement for South Sudan.

During the meeting, His Excellency affirmed his blessing for the steps taken by the parties’ consensus to extend the implementation period of the agreement for an additional two years, praising the efforts of all parties to the agreement, and their continuous endeavor to achieve peace in South Sudan, calling for the need to continue working to implement all provisions related to the agreement.

He expressed his hope that the arrangements for the graduation of the first batch of the integrated forces would be completed at the end of this month, and the second batch would be absorbed by the end of November, as the parties to the agreement pledged.

For his part, Dr. Riek Machar expressed his country’s appreciation for the good offices carried out by the deputy of the Sovereign Council, to follow up on the implementation of the peace agreement in South Sudan as a guarantor and supervisor of the file, stressing the seriousness and commitment of the parties to achieve stability, which will reflect positively on the security and stability of the region.
