Khartoum, Sudan – In a blatant attempt to starve the Sudanese people, the Janjaweed militia has prevented shipments of seeds from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) from reaching farmers in Sennar State for the rainy agricultural season.
This latest act of aggression is an extension of the militia’s ongoing campaign to target agricultural production and infrastructure, with the aim of depopulating productive regions and enabling the settlement of mercenaries and foreign elements. The militia’s criminal scheme has included:

  • Looting the largest World Food Programme warehouses in Wad Madani last December.
  • Disrupting the winter agricultural season in the Gezira Scheme by plundering agricultural machinery and movable assets, closing canals, and stealing harvested crops and seeds.
  • Threatening production areas in Sennar State and the Rahad Scheme.
  • Vandalizing the Agricultural Research Corporation and the Seed Gene Bank.
The Sudanese government reaffirms its readiness to produce sufficient food in safe areas and emphasizes the resilience of the Sudanese people in overcoming this challenge.
