Airstrike Hits South Desert College in El Fasher, Causing Widespread Destruction

On Tuesday, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched an airstrike targeting South Desert College in El Fasher, causing extensive damage to the institution. The college, established in 2018, has been a leading educational beacon, marking a significant shift in vision, facilities, and working environment since its inception.

The attack on the college, which had been instrumental in advancing the quality of higher education in Darfur, has drawn widespread condemnation. The institution is recognized for its dedication to serving the people of Darfur and the surrounding region by providing students with high-quality education in an environment conducive to research and innovation.

It is noteworthy that South Desert College was founded by Dr. Suleiman Jaddo. The college’s first Board of Trustees meeting, chaired by Dr. Al-Sadiq Omar Khalafallah, was attended by a U.S. Congressional delegation led by the Chair of the Congressional Africa Subcommittee during their visit to Sudan in April 2018.
