Sudan sends a government delegation to Cairo to meet the American delegation

Press Release

August 21, 2024

In recognition of the importance of alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people caused by the violations committed by the rebel militias against civilians, their properties, and their sanctities, and in appreciation of the steadfastness of the Sudanese people in their support for the armed forces, joint forces, and all security agencies in the battle for dignity, the Sudanese government wishes to inform the public of the following in response to the invitation extended by the United States and the Arab Republic of Egypt for a delegation to consult with the United States on the implementation of the Jeddah Declaration signed on May 11, 2023:

  • The Government of Sudan highly values the continuous efforts made by the sisterly Republic of Egypt since the outbreak of the war by the terrorist Al-Daglo militia, particularly its hosting of Sudanese citizens and its efforts to achieve peace. We also appreciate Egypt’s initiative to host a consultative meeting with the United States, which was not held due to circumstances related to the U.S. delegation.
  • The Sudanese government has decided to send an official delegation to Cairo to meet with the U.S. delegation. Two members of our delegation arrived in Cairo on Monday, August 19, 2024, and are still there awaiting the rest of the delegation to join them. This demonstrates our seriousness and sincere desire to continue the consultations initiated with the United States in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 9 to 10, 2024.
  • It should be noted that these consultations have no connection with the ongoing meetings in Geneva but are aimed at clarifying our vision for the implementation of the Jeddah Declaration signed on May 11, 2023.
  • The fundamental position of the Sudanese government is its commitment to genuine peace, which is based on sincere intentions and the implementation of the Jeddah Declaration. This represents a starting point for realizing the aspirations of our people, enabling citizens to return to their homes, restoring public facilities, reopening public roads, and helping to normalize life in preparation for negotiations on the fate of the rebel militia and other related peace arrangements.

The Sudanese government’s response to this generous invitation is part of its openness to peace initiatives, preserving the safety of the country and its national institutions, and alleviating the suffering of our people. The Government of Sudan remains committed to responding to what fulfills the wishes of the Sudanese people and is ready for any consultative rounds that may be scheduled in this context, provided there is prior coordination with us and not the imposition of a fait accompli by one party.
