Press Statement

While the purported Geneva talks continue under the guise of seeking peace, harrowing details have emerged of a massacre perpetrated by the terrorist Janjaweed militia on August 10 in the village of Jalingi, Sennar State. The massacre claimed the lives of approximately 85 individuals and left 153 others injured. Among the victims were students from local Qur’anic schools!. Disturbingly, the militia has refused to allow the families of the deceased to bury their loved ones.

This brutal atrocity was carried out by indiscriminately opening heavy fire on defenseless villagers, in retaliation for their resistance against the militia’s attempts to abduct and sexually assault women from the community. The village has endured relentless attacks since last month, during which the militia looted all valuables and property, subjecting the villagers to severe persecution.

We call upon the international community, particularly those participating in the ongoing Geneva meetings, who are advocating for peace negotiations with the militia, to unequivocally condemn this heinous terrorist act. It is imperative that they take decisive action to designate the Dagalo militia as a terrorist organization responsible for crimes against humanity. Without such a firm stance, continued engagement with this terrorist group will only embolden it to commit further atrocities, genocide, and crimes against humanity.
