Sudanese Sovereignty Council Member Reaffirms Commitment to Jeddah Agreement

Lieutenant General Engineer Ibrahim Jaber, a member of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council and Assistant to the General Commander, has reiterated the Sudanese government’s commitment to implementing the Jeddah Agreement signed in May 2023 as a foundation for resolving the crisis in Sudan.

This statement was made during his meeting today with the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Sudan, Ali bin Hassan Jaafar, at his office. Jaber praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s efforts in supporting the cessation of hostilities in Sudan, as well as its significant role in providing humanitarian aid to those affected by the conflict, particularly in the Darfur states.

During the meeting, Jaber briefed the Saudi ambassador on the current situation in Sudan, highlighting the military and security control exercised by the Sudanese Armed Forces. He also discussed the government’s progress in agricultural and industrial production and the ongoing efforts to revive the Sudanese economy.

For his part, Ambassador Ali bin Hassan Jaafar reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s full commitment to implementing the Jeddah Agreement with the aim of ending the war and alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people. He emphasized the Kingdom’s dedication to helping Sudan transition to a phase of reconstruction and to initiating economic cooperation.

The Saudi ambassador also expressed his country’s determination to maintain continuous communication with the Sudanese government to achieve mutual interests and bring an end to the conflict in Sudan.
