Brown Land Newspaper Issues Urgent Call to Save Residents of Tuti Island in Central Khartoum

Tuti Island, located within Khartoum State and surrounded by the Nile, is home to residents who mainly work as farmers and civil servants.

  • For more than ten months, all basic necessities such as food, water, and medical supplies have been unavailable on the island after it was occupied by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
  • As part of a broader campaign of retaliation against civilians, the rebel militia has prevented the island’s inhabitants from accessing essential supplies and has barred them from leaving, using them as human shields to protect against attacks from the Sudanese army.

The RSF has detained thousands of civilians on the island. According to testimonies from those who managed to escape, the militia treats the civilians as slaves. There are numerous accounts of torture and sexual violence.

The call is directed at the international community, organizations, and activists to intervene and help the people of Tuti Island.
