Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council Member Affirms Support for Great Lakes Organization

Lieutenant General engineer Ibrahim Jaber, a member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, reaffirmed Sudan’s support for the Great Lakes Organization in achieving goals that promote stability and development in the region.

This statement was made during a meeting at his office with the Executive Secretary of the Great Lakes Organization, Ambassador João Samuel Kaholo. Jaber provided a comprehensive overview of the current situation in Sudan, highlighting the impacts of the ongoing war, particularly the violations committed by the rebel Rapid Support Forces against civilians and public facilities.

Ambassador Kaholo expressed his gratitude for the warm reception, noting that his visit aimed to present the organization’s vision and exchange views on Sudan’s current status, while encouraging all parties to enhance efforts to restore security and stability.

He also announced plans to invite Sudan’s Sovereignty Council President, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to attend a summit of heads of state and government scheduled for November 26 in Luanda, Angola.

Kaholo emphasized that his visit reflects the organization’s solidarity with the Sudanese government and people amidst their challenges, allowing for direct observation of the situation on the ground.

Regarding the situation in Sudan, Kaholo mentioned the organization’s participation in the Executive Committee meeting of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, where they advocated for international assistance to bring peace, address displacement issues, and contribute to the country’s reconstruction.
