Appointment of New Advisors

Osman Mirghani

Prime Minister, Dr. Abdallah Hamdok has issued on Sunday a decree according to which he appointed each of Yassir Arman and Aisha Ahmed Mohammed as advisors in his office.

The existence of advisors at the top of the executive authority is a good omen because they provide the decision-makers with additional experience, viewpoints, and options that contribute to upgrading the leadership of the country.

It is always wise in evaluating such decisions to consider the outcome and not the expenses. The outcome of the institutionalism of the Prime Minister’s office is bigger than any other accounts relating to the expenses, salaries, etc.

But this requires a strict technical description of the post of (Advisor) because this post in the ex-regimes was not more than an honorary function without any achievements.

We here recall the joke of that advisor during Nimeiri’s regime who came out after meeting the President with a press statement saying that the President provided him with valuable advice!

In the first year of the transitional government, a decree was issued according to which Faiz Al-Silaik was appointed as media advisor to the prime minister, but after one week the Sudanese TV aired a news article saying that the prime minister has received in his office his media advisor!

Such news indicates that the advisor is not part of the prime minister’s office.

Logically, the advisors are the closest group to the prime minister a matter that makes their meeting with him a daily routine that should not be mentioned as a news article.

The job description of the advisor is very crucial to enable him to know what are his tasks.

It is not enough to say that Yassir Arman is a political advisor without showing the limits and the mandate of his position.
