Official Spokesperson: Militia Used UAE Ambassador’s Residence as a Launchpad for Attacks on Key Sites in Khartoum

Port Sudan, 14 October 2024 (SUNA)

Dr. Graham Abdel Qader, Minister of Culture and Information and official spokesperson for the government, revealed that the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been using the residence of the UAE Ambassador in southern Khartoum as a base for their military operations and for meetings of their field commanders. He pointed out that the militia has been using the ambassador’s residence as a launch site to shell critical locations in Khartoum.

In a joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs following a meeting with ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions in Port Sudan today, Dr. Abdel Qader stated that the government rejects the UAE’s claims that its ambassador’s residence in Khartoum was shelled by the Sudanese army. He reaffirmed Sudan’s respect for international treaties and agreements concerning the protection of diplomatic missions.

Dr. Abdel Qader further explained that the RSF used the UAE Ambassador’s residence as a platform to target the army’s General Command and to shell the Armored Corps headquarters in the Al-Shajara area. He confirmed that there is documented evidence showing the installation of Katyusha rocket launchers and heavy artillery around the residence by the militia.

He also accused the UAE of continuing to supply the rebels with weapons, logistical support, and other resources through airports in Chad and other locations outside the region. He highlighted that the UAE had set up a field hospital for the militia in Chad and is providing medical treatment to RSF wounded in advanced hospitals, including some within the UAE itself.

The government spokesperson disclosed that they have confirmed information implicating the UAE in attacks on locations in Khartoum and several other areas in the states, including Jebel Moya. He added that the RSF’s defeat in Jebel Moya allowed the Sudanese Armed Forces to capture irrefutable evidence of the UAE’s involvement in arming and supporting the militia.

Dr. Abdel Qader also emphasized the government’s efforts to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need, particularly in the Darfur states, reiterating the government’s commitment to keeping border crossings open and granting necessary visas and permits to ensure continued humanitarian work.
