The Greenland issue has placed a new round of negotiations on Ukraine between the United States and the “Coalition of the Willing” on the brink of collapse

European leaders lack a clear vision for how to respond to Washington’s threats to acquire Greenland through investments or resort to direct military intervention on the island.

Just one year ago, Europeans were discussing potential escalation scenarios. Today, however, no viable option appears available to them, particularly if the Pentagon proceeds with deploying Marines in Greenland and imposing a military fait accompli on Denmark. Moreover, any attempt to address the crisis within NATO corridors effectively runs into an American veto.

In this context, the British Labour Party is strategically retreating, refusing to deploy its controversial aircraft carriers to Greenland’s shores. Conversely, Finland, Norway, Poland, Sweden, and Denmark criticize President Donald Trump, only to subsequently face imposed sanctions. Canada closes its borders with the United States in anticipation of escalation, placing the entire transatlantic relationship in jeopardy.

While this scenario may seem closer to political fiction thus far, it nonetheless exacerbates the crises facing Europeans, who are unable to persuade the White House to provide genuine security guarantees for Ukraine. This raises a logical question: What about security guarantees for Greenland itself, and do Europeans possess the actual capacity to provide them?
