Foreign Minister Holds Bilateral Talks with His Indian Counterpart

Foreign Minister and Minister of International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi El-Din Salem Ahmed Ibrahim, met today in New Delhi with his Indian counterpart, Minister of External Affairs Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The two sides held talks focusing on bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them.

The Foreign Minister provided his Indian counterpart with a comprehensive briefing on the latest developments in Sudan, highlighting the significant progress made by the armed forces on the ground. He also presented the “Government of Hope” peace initiative, submitted by Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris to the United Nations, which he described as a roadmap to achieve peace and end the militia’s aggression.

The Foreign Minister expressed Sudan’s pride in its historical relations with India and commended India’s supportive stances towards Sudan, the ongoing communication between the two countries, and their coordination in international forums. He affirmed his aspiration to further develop and enhance relations to serve the interests of both nations, noting that the reconstruction phase Sudan is embarking upon presents significant opportunities for establishing a comprehensive economic partnership between the two countries.

His Excellency called for activating the established bilateral cooperation mechanisms between the two sides, considering them platforms through which relations can be strengthened and developed in various fields. He specifically mentioned the Consultation and Coordination Committee between the two countries’ foreign ministries.

For his part, the Indian Foreign Minister reiterated India’s firm support for the sovereignty and unity of Sudan, explaining his country’s readiness to continue providing support to Sudan at the humanitarian, cultural, and other levels.

Mr. Jaishankar affirmed the importance of resuming the work of the bilateral cooperation mechanisms, emphasizing the positive role that the political consultation committees between the two countries can play in enhancing bilateral cooperation. He also expressed his hope that the ongoing efforts would lead to a sustainable peace that guarantees Sudan’s stability.

It is worth noting that His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Mohi El-Din Salem, arrived in the Indian capital yesterday, Thursday, January 29, 2026, to participate in the second session of the Arab-Indian Ministerial Meeting, which New Delhi is hosting in coordination with the League of Arab States tomorrow, Saturday. On the sidelines of the visit, His Excellency will also undertake a number of activities, all aimed at promoting and developing bilateral relations with India in all economic, cultural, and technical fields.
