Simply Is the United States a suitable partner for Sudan ?
Dr.. Adel Abdel Aziz Al-Faki
Although the Sudanese army participated in the Bright Star maneuvers several times, and despite the extensive intelligence cooperation with the CIA during the era of the former Director of the Intelligence Service, this does not provide evidence of the possibility of any kind of partnership with the United States at the present time or in the future. near. This is because strategic partnership requires, as we explained in our previous articles, agreement on a common vision regarding the following elements of our country’s comprehensive powers: political and diplomatic, military and security, economic, cultural, social, scientific and informational, media, environmental, and humanitarian.
The United States of America, which has a wide international influence and has the first or second economy in the world (the CIA factbook issued by the Central Intelligence Agency, places the United States in second place in terms of the size of the economy after China!) has a clear political position expressed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The United States, and its envoys, said that it would not cooperate with Sudan except under a civilian-led government. This is blatant interference in Sudanese internal affairs, with which there is no hope for any kind of cooperation.
The United States imposed very harsh sanctions on Sudan for a period of twenty-five years, starting in 1997 and lifted in 2021. They had a negative impact on development rates, as an increase in the severity of poverty and the number of people below the poverty line was observed, which led to an increase in cases of human trafficking and clandestine migration. Drug trafficking, extremism, and terrorism. Consequently, economic sanctions achieved exactly the opposite of what was expected of them. Due to the embargo, Sudan has rapidly progressed towards the status of a failed state, unable to control its borders and its residents. He ended up with the war currently taking place in his lands, which has a severe impact on regional and international security.
However, in continuation of its hostile approach, the United States government recently imposed sanctions on institutions affiliated with sovereign agencies. It imposed a ban on the activities and supplies of the Central Reserve Police, and also banned the activities and work of Zadna Company, which is affiliated with the defense industries system. Ironically, Zadna Company contracted three years ago to supply ten thousand center-pivot irrigation devices with the American “Valminut” company, which is considered the largest company in the world for the production and technology of center-pivot irrigation devices. This explains the targeting of Sudan by the United States in its infrastructure.
The position of the United States is consistent with the position of the European Union countries and the system of institutions of the Brighton Woods Agreement (the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and their affiliated and sister institutions), as all of these countries and organizations use one expression, which is (not to deal with Sudan except under a civilian-led government). In blatant interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state. We will see a different position from China, Russia, Egypt and many other countries that express their respect for Sudanese sovereign institutions and refrain from interfering in its internal affairs.
Based on the above, we exclude the establishment of any strategic or economic partnerships with the United States and European Union countries, and we also exclude any economic cooperation with the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and affiliated institutions, at the present time or in the near future.
