Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, met today in his office in the Republican Palace, Ambassador of the Republic of France in Khartoum Emmanuel Platman

In a press statement after the meeting, the French ambassador said that she offered the condolences of the French government to the head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, regarding the victims of the floods that swept through large parts of Sudan.

Platman confirmed her country’s readiness to provide urgent aid to Sudan in light of these difficult circumstances, noting that the French government, through the Disaster Management Center in Paris, is working with the Sudanese government to provide the necessary aid and assistance to the flood victims, represented in tents, medical materials and water sterilizers.

The French ambassador explained that she congratulated the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council on the occasion of the initialed signing of the recent peace agreement in Juba between the government and the armed struggle movements. Expressing her country’s aspiration for the final signing of the peace agreement on the second of next October.

Emmanuel Platman affirmed France’s commitment to work to persuade the parties that have not yet joined the peace process to join the peace process.

She also renewed her country’s keenness to support the transitional period and stand by the Sudanese people in light of these exceptional circumstances that they are going through.

The French ambassador considered that the joint declaration signed recently between Prime Minister Dr. Abdullah Hamdok and the Chairman of the Popular Movement North Abdel Aziz Al-Hilu represents an important step to reach a comprehensive peace agreement, referring to the suffering of the Sudanese people due to conflicts and wars. “The time has come to achieve permanent and comprehensive peace in Sudan,” she said.

She added that the meeting dealt with the mission of the UN political mission, “UNITAMS”, which will begin its work in Sudan as soon as the UNAMID forces withdraw from Darfur.
