The first deputy discusses efforts to address the Abyei region file

The First Vice President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo , met in his office at the Republican Palace with the Abyei region delegation headed by the Minister of East African Affairs and the official in charge of the Abyei region file in the Government of Southern Sudan, Deng Alor.

Aisha Abbas Akwi, a member of the delegation and a representative of the people of the Abyei region in the Parliament of Southern Sudan, said in a press statement that the First Vice President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council welcomed the efforts to address the Abyei file, as he promised to arrange to start negotiations on the file to reach lasting peace and stability in the region.

Akoy said that the First Deputy Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council assured the delegation that the issue of Abyei would be resolved in the same spirit in which Sudan’s issues were addressed in the various regions in order to achieve comprehensive peace in Sudan and its neighbors, noting that the First Vice President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council promised to follow the Abyei file with a view to Reaching a permanent solution that will contribute to peaceful coexistence, security and stability in the region, given that the two Nations are one people in two states and that there will be no obstacles to reaching a final solution to the issue of the Abyei region.

Professor Aisha expressed her thanks for the warm reception by the leadership in Sudan, represented by the Sovereignty Council and the Council of Ministers, who emphasized their keenness on the necessity of reaching a lasting solution and peace in the Abyei region as soon as possible.
