
The First Vice President of Sovereignty Council chairs Emergency meeting of Security and Defense Council

Khartoum — The First Vice President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, at the Republican Palace this evening chaired the emergency meeting of the Security and Defense Council with the participation of all members.
Defense Minister Lieutenant General Yassin Ibrahim Yassin said, in a press statement, that the meeting dealt with the extension of the mandate of UNITAMS, and the security situation in the country in general, especially in the states of South Darfur and Blue Nile.
He indicated that the meeting agreed to extend the mission’s mandate for another year, in accordance with Resolution 2524, for the year 2020 AD, starting from June 3, 2021.
His Excellency clarified that the Council had mercy on the martyrs of duty from the police forces in the events that took place on May 13, 2021, in Al-Radoum locality in South Darfur.
The Minister of Defense said that the meeting secured support for the police forces in order to be able to perform their duties in extending the prestige of the state and law enforcement. He also secured the payment of joint forces to arrest the insolent and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He added that the council sought to examine the events that occurred in Qaisan locality in Village 11, and to work on strengthening the joint forces to limit the development of tribal conflict in the area.
