During Meeting in Khartoum, Sudanese and American Sides Stress the Need to Launch a Comprehensive National Dialogue

Khartoum: 01-2022 — The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant-General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, met at the Presidential Palace today, the visiting US delegation headed by the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Ambassador Molly V, and the membership of the new US envoy to the Horn of Africa, Ambassador David Starfield, along with the Chargé d’Affairs of the US Embassy in Khartoum, Ambassador Brian Shawkan.

The meeting took place in the presence of the Vice-President of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant-General Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, Council member Lieutenant-General Yasser Al-Atta, and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Abdullah Omar Bashir.

 During the meeting, the Sudanese and American sides secured the following:

  1. The Sudanese parties enter into a comprehensive national dialogue through a round table, which includes all political and societal forces, with the exception of the National Conference, to reach a national consensus to get out of the current crisis.
  2. Forming an independent government of national competencies led by a civilian prime minister to complete the tasks of the transitional period.
  3. Making amendments to the constitutional document to keep pace with new developments.
  4. Free and fair elections at the end of the transitional period.
