Ethiopia Announces Opening of the Second Turbine of the “Renaissance Dam” in Power Generation

Ethiopia announced today, Thursday, the start of power generation from the second turbine of the “Renaissance Dam,” and the Ethiopian News Agency reported that the second turbine of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam began generating power early today, in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, President Sahel Work Zudi and other senior government officials.

It is noteworthy that the second turbine has a current capacity of (375) megawatts.

At the opening ceremony, the director of the Renaissance Dam project, Kevel Horo, said that the total civil construction process of the project reached 95 percent, while electrical works amounted to 61 percent.

He added that the total construction process of the Renaissance Dam project has now reached 83.3%, indicating that efforts are underway to complete the project during the next two and a half years.
