Malik Agar Meets with Diplomatic Corps and Volker Perthes

Speaking on the Developments of the Emerging From the National Crisis Through Consolidation of the Pillars of Democracy and Peace Initiative

August 1, 2022 – The chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) and Sovereignty Council member Malik Agar met at his residence this morning with Mr. Volker Perthes, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of the UN Mission (UNitams), along with representatives of the diplomatic corps, including the Ambassador of the European Union, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom, and the US Chargé d’affaires, representatives of the Saudi embassy and ​the embassy of the United Arab Emirates and the ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Agar reviewed the developments in the course of the initiative through meetings held with the various civilian political forces and parties, the JPA signatories of the armed struggle movements, in addition to the military component, as stipulated by the initiative in structuring the proposed political process. He explained that he submitted a preliminary proposal for all these components on the distribution of powers and tasks among the various government bodies to agree on them before proceeding with the formation of the government, in preparation for the stage of the comprehensive national dialogue in which everyone participates except for the dissolved National Congress Party.

He explained that he is waiting for comments and suggestions from the different parties to develop the initiative further to reach a national agreement on the distribution of tasks and structures of the transitional authority. His Excellency called on the UN mission and the international community to play their role in a unified and effective manner in providing technical and legal support in the legal drafting of these tasks and bridging the gap between the various parties.
