Vice President of Sovereignty Council receives the Russian Foreign Minister

The Deputy Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General * Mohamed Hamdan Daglo *, received in his office in the Republican Palace today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of the Director General of the European and American Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Abdel Wahhab Hegazy, and the Director of the European Affairs Department, Ambassador Khaled Moses Daffallah.

The meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, and ways to enhance them in all fields, to serve common interests, in addition to regional and international developments, as well as the current political crisis in Sudan, in light of the framework agreement that was signed last December.

The Vice-President of the Sovereignty Council stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination relations between the two countries, noting that Sudan seeks to build balanced relations with all countries, based on mutual respect and achieving common interests, expressing his hope that Russia and Ukraine will reach political and diplomatic solutions that end the war and achieve success. Security, stability and peace between the two countries, and the world avoiding negative effects.

His Excellency provided an explanation to the Russian minister about the current political developments in the country, in light of the framework agreement, and the commitment of the military institution to exit political work, in preparation for the formation of a civilian government, leading to the completion of the transitional period leading to the elections, calling for support for the framework agreement as it represents a way out for Sudan.

For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister expressed his happiness at visiting Sudan, pointing to the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and activating joint cooperation mechanisms, especially the joint ministerial committee, in a way that achieves the interests of the two countries. He stressed that his country is following the efforts of the Sudanese parties to reach a political solution to the crisis. His hope for stability in the situation in Sudan, expressing his country’s readiness to cooperate with him in the areas of infrastructure, roads and transportation.
