Military training for the Egyptian and Sudanese armies at the Port Sudan base in the Red Sea

The Egyptian army, along with its Sudanese counterpart, carried out naval military exercises at the Port Sudan base, east of the Red Sea, with the aim of “confronting atypical threats and supporting maritime security.”

A statement by the Egyptian army stated that, since last December, the Egyptian Navy has assumed command of the “International Joint Task Force 153” in the Red Sea, which includes the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Gulf of Aden.

The statement indicated that the Egyptian forces assumed new tasks during their command of the Joint Task Force, including “combating smuggling and illegal activities, and confronting terrorist acts in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab, and Gulf of Aden regions.”
