A press release welcoming the statement of United Nations human rights experts regarding the condemnation of the crimes and violations of the rebel Rapid Support militia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the press release issued by the United Nations experts in Geneva, today, August 17, 2023, regarding the condemnation of the horrific crimes and violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces since the outbreak of its rebellion against the state on April 15, 2023.

The UN experts’ statement expressed grave concern at reports of widespread use of rape and other forms of sexual violence against women and girls by the Rapid Support Forces. The statement also denounced the subjection of women and girls to enforced disappearance and actions amounting to forced labor and sexual exploitation. Where the Rapid Support Forces detained hundreds of women in inhumane or degrading conditions and subjected them to sexual abuse

subject to sexual slavery.

The statement also referred to the use of rape and sexual violence against women and girls by members of the Rapid Support Forces as a tool to punish and intimidate communities. According to experts, some of the reported rape cases appear to have ethnic and racial motives. The experts called for assistance and protection for victims and for women and girls to have access to effective remedies

While the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns in the strongest terms the crimes and human rights violations that have been committed by the rebellious Rapid Support militia, it welcomes the condemnation issued by United Nations experts and calls on the international community to condemn the militia in the strongest terms and consider it a terrorist organization and hold it legal and moral responsibility before the mechanisms of national and international justice.
