I met this afternoon, August 2, 2023, at my residence in Cairo, With the Spanish Ambassador to Sudan, Mr. Isdro Gonzalez Afonso, and the Acting Chargé d’Affaires in Egypt

The ambassador indicated that they transferred the embassy’s work
And its employees to the Arab Republic of Egypt, after their embassy and the ambassador’s house in Khartoum were looted and destroyed by the Rapid Support Forces.

I discussed with the Spanish delegation about the developments of the situation in Sudan, stressing the seriousness of the government of Sudan and its endeavor to end the war, restore stability in Sudan, and ensure the security and protection of citizens.

The Ambassador mentioned that Spain will assume the presidency of the European Union as of August 1, and that their top priority will be to support efforts to end the war in Sudan. He indicated their support for the government’s position on merging initiatives and uniting platforms, indicating that this is the only way to speed up the end of the war and ending the suffering of citizens. .

I thanked the Ambassador for the clear Spanish stance towards the crisis in Sudan since the outbreak of the war, which confirmed that it will continue to stand with Sudan and the people of Sudan.
