Press Statement by His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Mohamed Abdullah Eltoum, Acting Head of the Sudanese Embassy in Egypt, Regarding the Visit of His Excellency Mr. Abdel Fattah El Burhan, Head of the Sovereignty Council, to the Arab Republic of Egypt on February 29, 2024.

His Excellency Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah El Burhan, Head of the Sovereignty Council, arrives in Cairo today for an official visit to the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt. During this visit, he will hold official talks with his counterpart, His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, and senior Egyptian officials. Ambassador Mohamed Abdullah Eltoum, Acting Head of the Sudanese Embassy in Cairo, clarified that the discussions will focus on the developments in Sudan’s internal situation in light of the rebellion by the Rapid Support Forces militia and the state’s efforts to confront and combat its war against the country, including the crimes and atrocities committed against civilians. The visit will also explore ways to enhance and develop bilateral relations between the two countries, in addition to discussing regional and international issues of common interest.

Ambassador Eltoum added that the visit comes within the context of the ongoing communication between the leaderships of both countries, emphasizing their commitment to continuous consultation and dialogue on matters of mutual concern. This is due to the distinguished bilateral relations and the shared bonds of blood, geography, and history between the Sudanese and Egyptian people. He noted that the warmth and positive reception received by Sudanese delegates during their recent visit to Egypt underscore this special relationship.

The ambassador highlighted that the visit reaffirms Sudan’s recognition of the importance of its relations with Egypt, expressing a keen interest in developing cooperation in various fields. Egypt, given its strategic and security depth, regional and international weight, and its efforts to restore stability and security in Sudan, holds a genuine interest in the stability and security of its neighbor. It is known that Egypt, based on this understanding, led and organized the first summit of neighboring countries in July last year, resulting in mechanisms aimed at addressing the crisis in Sudan.
