Head of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces: “If the war doesn’t end, there won’t be a political process.”

El-Gedaref, 20-2-2024

The Head of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdelfatah Al-Burhan, stated that if the war does not come to an end, there won’t be a political process.

Addressing officers and soldiers of the Second Infantry Division in El-Gedaref today, he questioned how an agreement and peace could be achieved with someone who doesn’t commit and changes their opinion every day. He emphasized that there won’t be peace until the end of this rebellion.

He praised the leadership of armed struggle movements for sensing the concerns and uniting with the rest of Sudanese, highlighting their unwavering national positions. Al-Burhan emphasized that both armed movements and government forces are on the same page.

The Head of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief sent a message to politicians advocating war, stating that war advocates are those who carry weapons and attack citizens. He added that they are those seeking weapons from outside the country to kill Sudanese.

Al-Burhan reiterated in his speech that those who claim to be against war and call for peace should ensure rebels leave people’s homes and cities.

He pointed out that the current battle differs from the past ten months, emphasizing its necessity and duty. Al-Burhan mentioned that they went to Jeddah for peace, reached agreements and covenants, but none have been implemented.

During his visit to El-Gedaref, the Head of the Sovereignty Council inspected the stationed forces in El-Fao locality.
