Global Health” warns of rapidly worsening situation in El Fasher, western Sudan
The World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Monday that clashes in El Fasher, Northern Darfur, in western Sudan, led to a rapid worsening of the situation.
The organization condemned the attack near a hospital run by Médecins sans frontières in El Fasher, which resulted in the death of two children.
The organization called on the Sudanese parties to stop the war, according to the Arab World News Agency.
Doctors Without Borders (MSF) announced on Sunday that Al-Fasher Children’s Hospital had been suspended due to shelling by the Sudanese army in its vicinity.
The organization added in a statement that an army raid 50 metres from the hospital led to the collapse of the hospital’s ICU ceiling and the killing of two children who were receiving treatment and a paramedic.
The statement indicated that the hospital was one of the few specialized children’s hospitals that continued to operate despite the war between the Sudanese army and the “Rapid Support Forces”.
MSF urged the warring parties to protect civilians and ensure the safety of health facilities in accordance with international humanitarian law and the Jeddah Declaration signed a year ago.
