Vice President Han Zheng Meets Respectively with Representatives of the U.S. Business Community and Tesla CEO Elon Musk

On January 19 local time, Vice President Han Zheng, Special Representative of President Xi Jinping, met with representatives of the U.S. business community including of the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C.

Vice President Han said that President Xi Jinping and President-Elect Donald J. Trump had an important phone call just recently, and they reached important consensus on the development of China-U.S. relations. The two countries enjoy extensive common interests and broad space of cooperation. Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serve the common well-being of the people of the two countries and meet the expectation of the international community. The U.S. business community has been a backbone force supporting China-U.S. relations, and is a participant, witness, contributor and beneficiary of China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation and China’s reform and opening-up. China will remain steadfast in advancing reform and opening up, and continue improving its business environment. It is hoped that U.S. companies will continue investing and taking roots in China, actively play their role as a bridge between the two sides, and make greater contributions to the steady, sound and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

Representatives of the U.S. business community said that the recent conversation between President-Elect Trump and President Xi sent a positive, encouraging message. As the world’s two biggest economies that are most dynamic and technologically advanced, the United States and China should engage in mutually beneficial cooperation and find a constructive and steady way to get along with each other. The U.S. business community is optimistic about the prospect of the Chinese economy and the opportunities to grow in China, and supports the two sides in strengthening dialogue and communication to
move forward their bilateral relations as well as economic and trade cooperation.

On the same day, Vice President Han met with Chief Executive Officer of Telsa Elon Musk, and welcomed U.S. companies including Tesla to seize opportunities to share in the benefits of China’s development, and make new and greater contributions to closer economic and trade ties between China and the United States.

Musk said that Tesla is ready to deepen investment in and cooperation with China, and play a positive role in promoting U.S.-China. economic and trade interactions.
