“Constitutional Document Amendments – sudan
Some of the key amendments to the Constitutional Document include:
- A new article on the sources of legislation, which states that the principles of Islam, other religious beliefs, popular consensus, and the values and customs of Sudanese society shall be a source of legislation.
- The transitional period shall last for 39 months from the date of its commencement.
- The Sovereignty Council is the head of state and the symbol of its sovereignty and unity.
- The Council shall consist of 11 members, 6 from the military establishment, 3 from the signatory parties to the peace agreement, and 2 representatives for women and regions.
- The Council of Ministers shall consist of independent national competencies, not exceeding 26 ministries.
- One of the conditions for the Prime Minister is that he/she shall not hold the citizenship of another country.
- Prior to the expiration of six months from the end of the transitional period, any armed or paramilitary forces shall be integrated into the regular forces.
- Any reference to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) shall be deleted.
