The SPLA-IO’s 1st Infantry Division has successfully recaptured its former base in Buoz from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), marking a significant military reversal in the Northern Upper Nile region.

This operation comes in response to last month’s deadly RSF assault on the SPLA-IO base, which resulted in the death of the local commander and dozens of soldiers.

According to field reports, the SPLA-IO offensive, launched on April 12, 2025, led to the elimination of the RSF commander responsible for the previous attack. Additionally, 36 RSF officers of various ranks were reportedly found dead during the operation.

Captured equipment includes:

5 RPG-7 launchers

20 AKM-47 rifles

1 sniper rifle

3 GMs (likely General Purpose Machine Guns)

Wireless communication equipment

5 PKM machine guns
