China and Sudan are friends and brothers who stand by each other through thick and thin
On May 14, 2025, a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with the Sudanese ambassador to China, the new foreign minister Omar Siddiq, just before he left China to return to his country.
Wang Yi congratulated Omar Siddiq on his appointment as Sudan’s foreign minister, and praised his contributions to strengthening China-Sudan relations during his tenure as ambassador to Beijing, stressing that the peoples of China and Sudan are friends and brothers who stand by each other through thick and thin. He pointed out that the fruitful meeting between President Xi Jinping and the chairman of the Sudanese sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, in September last year, determined the direction of the development of bilateral relations. Given that this year marks the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the China-Sudan strategic partnership, the two sides should implement the important understandings reached between the leaders of the two countries, and push China-Sudan relations towards achieving more fruitful results that benefit the two peoples. He stressed that China firmly supports Sudan in preserving its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, supports the achievement of peace, stability and development in Sudan as soon as possible, and will continue to provide humanitarian assistance and possible support to Sudan.
For his part, Omar Siddiq expressed his deep appreciation for the deep-rooted friendship between Sudan and China, and for the solid foundation of bilateral relations. He thanked China for its valuable support and continuous humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people, as well as for its just positions in international forums in defense of Sudan. He stressed that Sudan considers China a very important strategic partner and a reliable friend, and puts cooperation with China at the top of its priorities. He added that, as the new foreign minister, he will continue to make all efforts to advance the development of the strategic partnership between the two countries, and implement the important global initiatives put forward by President Xi Jinping. He also stressed that Sudan attaches great importance to the security of Chinese citizens on its territory and will take effective measures to ensure their safety.
The two sides also exchanged views on the internal situation in Sudan and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Africa, China and Arab countries.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed on Wednesday, during a meeting with his Sudanese counterpart Omar Siddiq in Beijing, the support of Sudan in protecting its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, expressing the hope that Khartoum will restore peace and stability and return to the path of development as soon as possible, pledging to continue providing humanitarian assistance as much as possible.
For his part, Siddiq said that his country considers China its most important partner and reliable friend, expressing his readiness to implement the important consensus reached by leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Chinese President Xi Jinping during their talks last year in China, as well as protecting the safety of Chinese citizens in Sudan.
