Rwanda-DRC peace agreement to be signed in Trump’s presence in June.2nd.05.2025
Rwanda, the DRC and the United States have agreed to sign a peace agreement in June, at a ceremony to be held at the White House in the presence of President Trump, where it is expected to be signed by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and his DRC counterpart, Félix Tshisekedi.
The peace agreement will be signed on that day, and it is expected that other economic agreements between the United States and the two countries will also be signed, with no changes expected for major American investments in the two countries.
The United States says that this agreement will benefit all parties and provide a lasting solution to the problems that have plagued the region for many years.
Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe told local media outlet IGIHE that this Friday, May 2, is the date agreed upon for each side to submit a draft of this agreement.
“Yes, that’s what we agreed on. The preliminary agreement is this Friday, to be signed in June at the White House.”said Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe”
On Thursday evening, Trump’s Senior Advisor on Africa, Massad Boulos, had announced that the two countries had already done a lot of work on the draft agreement, and that they would definitely submit the final documents on Friday.
He said this after talks between the United States, Rwanda, the DRC and Qatar in Doha.
On Wednesday, a committee was set up to monitor the implementation of these provisions, comprising the United States, Qatar, France and Togo, representing the African Union.
Another development was that the talks that were taking place through the EAC-SADC framework were removed and instead brought under the umbrella of the African Union, meaning that the process was led by Togo.
