May 20, 2025 (Brwon land ) – The second Brazil-Africa dialogue on food security, hunger eradication, and rural development kicked off in the Brazilian capital, attended by 44 African countries at the ministerial level. This event marks the launch of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.

Brazilian President Lula addressed the opening session, highlighting the dialogue’s goal of exchanging experiences and raising awareness about global food security challenges. He noted that 730 million people worldwide suffer from hunger, while the world spends $2.4 trillion on arms, exacerbating conflicts globally.

Lula emphasized Brazil’s historical debt to Africa, which can’t be repaid in cash but through technical support and technology transfer to boost agricultural production. He also pointed out that colonial legacy aimed to disable African capabilities and prevent resource utilization.

Sudan’s delegation, led by Ambassador Dr. Ahmed Al-Tijani Suar, Charge d’Affaires, confirmed that Sudan is in a recovery phase and will contribute to global food security efforts leveraging its agricultural potential and strategic location.
