Sudan Reclaims Its Place on the Global Defence Stage: H.E. President Erdoğan, Sudan’s Defence Minister, and the Director of Sudan’s Defence Industries Corporation Inaugurate IDEF 2025 in Istanbul

Lt. Gen. Hassan Daoud Kabron: “Sudan is resolutely advancing toward the restoration of its regional stature through a sovereign, strategic vision grounded in balanced, constructive military and technological engagement.”

In a bold affirmation of its resurgence as a sovereign force in regional defence innovation, the Republic of Sudan has marked its return to the international defence arena through high-level participation in the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2025)—one of the world’s premier defence exhibitions—held in Istanbul from 22 to 27 July.

This year’s edition of IDEF was inaugurated in a ceremony of significant geopolitical symbolism, graced by the presence of H.E. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Sudan’s Minister of Defence, Lt. General Hassan Daoud Kabron, and Lt. General Mirghani Idris Suleiman, Director General of the Sudanese Defence Industries Corporation (DIC). They were joined by ministers of defence and senior military leaders from across the globe, underscoring the fair’s stature as a strategic forum for international defence diplomacy and innovation.

Sudan’s participation signals more than an exhibition of military hardware—it is a deliberate and confident step toward reviving its indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem, forging advanced technological alliances, and reasserting its sovereignty in the face of complex internal and regional dynamics.

Despite having endured targeted attacks on critical infrastructure by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, the Defence Industries Corporation has demonstrated exceptional resilience and institutional fortitude. Its presence at IDEF 2025 stands as a testament to its capacity not only to withstand adversity but to emerge strengthened, evoking a sense of admiration and respect for Sudan’s determination.

Lt. General Mirghani Idris Suleiman, Director General of Sudan’s Defence Industries Corporation, and Defence Minister Lt. General Hassan Daoud Kabron lead Sudan’s high-level delegation through the exhibition halls of IDEF 2025. Their presence underscores Sudan’s renewed strategic posture—one rooted in sovereign industrial capability, regional ambition, and international defence engagement.

By engaging directly with the latest innovations in military communications, unmanned systems, and AI-enabled defense platforms, Sudan seeks to enhance its national defense capabilities. This includes reducing its reliance on foreign systems in sensitive technological domains. The exhibition also serves as a gateway to forging transformative partnerships—enabling agreements on joint ventures, technical training, and knowledge transfer with some of the world’s foremost defense manufacturers.

Economically, Sudan’s re-engagement with the global defense sector unlocks significant potential, stimulating industrial localization, attracting foreign direct investment, and fostering an ecosystem of defense-linked industries that generate employment, build capacity, and drive inclusive economic growth. This presents a unique opportunity for international partners to invest in and collaborate with Sudan’s burgeoning defense industry, fostering a sense of mutual benefit and shared success.

Held under the auspices of the Turkish Ministry of National Defence, IDEF 2025 features over 1,400 companies from more than 50 countries, showcasing cutting-edge solutions for land, sea, and air defence, including armoured systems, autonomous aircraft, radar technology, and advanced military software. Sudan’s presence alongside major powers such as the United States, France, China, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and Pakistan affirms its re-emergence as a serious contributor to regional and global defence discourse.

The Turkish Aerospace pavilion draws international attention at IDEF 2025, where over 1,400 exhibitors from 50+ countries—including Sudan—demonstrate next-generation platforms and technologies shaping the future of defence.

More than a symbolic return, Sudan’s participation reflects a strategic doctrine—rooted in the pursuit of technological sovereignty, self-reliant defence capabilities, and a recalibrated foreign policy that aligns national resilience with international engagement.

The Defence Industries Corporation affirms that its participation at IDEF 2025 represents a pivotal milestone in Sudan’s national renaissance. It signals to partners and adversaries alike that, despite the headwinds of war and political upheaval, Sudan remains committed to building a future anchored in strength, sovereignty, and innovation, inspiring a sense of optimism and hope for the future.
