Hemedti’s Government Threatens the World
By Mohamed Saad
As reports circulated about the formation of Hemedti’s government in Darfur, the media—whether deliberately or inadvertently—overlooked what is unfolding within the Rapid Support Forces (RSF): early signs of tribal rifts that have already escalated to killings and targeted executions based on ethnicity.
These developments are alarming indicators for the future of this fledgling government. The proliferation of weapons in Darfur, combined with the RSF’s tribal recruitment structure and the region’s deep-rooted Arab–African tribal rivalries—even within the force itself—point to a trajectory of perpetual conflict that will directly engulf the region.
The tribes fighting alongside the RSF do so not out of military discipline or organizational loyalty, but to safeguard their own interests and kin above all else. A recent video circulated online showing an Arab member of the RSF being tortured by African tribesmen within the force, after he had previously released a video containing racist slurs against African fighters. This incident serves as an early warning of the fate awaiting a government built on brutality, tribalism, and racism, and funded by mercenarism, drug trafficking, and human smuggling.
Given what Sudanese civilians have already endured at the hands of the RSF—rape, murder, and looting—similar atrocities could easily spill over into neighboring countries. The international community must act now to contain the expansion of the RSF before it destabilizes the wider region.
