Sudan Urges International Action Against RSF Mercenaries at Baku Security Forum

At the Baku Security Forum in Azerbaijan, Sudan sounded the alarm over the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), accusing the militia of recruiting mercenaries from across the region and beyond with the backing of foreign financial and military support. Sudanese officials warned that this has deepened the suffering of the Sudanese people while undermining the country’s stability and security.

General Intelligence Director, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal, told participants that these mercenaries have committed serious crimes, including storming police stations and prisons, releasing dangerous inmates with expertise in terrorism, arms trafficking, and drug smuggling.

Mufaddal stressed that the threat posed by the RSF and its foreign fighters extends well beyond Sudan, citing the risk of spreading terrorism and organized crime at a global scale. He called on the international community to support Sudan, reject any form of assistance to the RSF, and formally designate the group as a terrorist organization at both regional and international levels.

The Baku Security Forum, held in the Azerbaijani capital from September 21–23, is convened under the theme “The Role of Security Cooperation in Preventing Humanitarian Crises During Conflicts and Disasters.” The forum aims to enhance international cooperation and exchange expertise in addressing cross-border security challenges.
