The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia Meets the Ambassador of Sudan to Somalia

19 January 2026 – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, today received in his office the Ambassador of the sisterly Republic of Sudan to Somalia, Mr. Abdulrahman Khalil Afandi, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Mogadishu.The two sides discussed strengthening the preservation of Somalia’s independence, unity, and territorial integrity. They also reviewed bilateral cooperation between Somalia and Sudan.The Sudanese ambassador reaffirmed his country’s full support for Somalia and congratulated Somalia on the success of the direct local elections held in Mogadishu for the first time in 57 years.The meeting also highlighted the strategic importance of the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab maritime corridor, and the Indian Ocean, as well as Somalia’s role as a current member of the United Nations Security Council.Minister Abdisalam thanked the ambassador for his visit to the city of Las Anod, which reinforced the unity of the Somali people and the territorial integrity of the Republic.
