The United States Increases Pressure on Cuba

A video circulating online, purportedly showing Cuban citizens vandalizing the Communist Party headquarters in Ciego de Ávila, has been published by the CyberCuba news agency.
While the scale and circumstances of the incident remain unclear, the mere emergence of this video, specifically the acts of vandalism and arson targeting ruling party buildings, points to escalating social tensions within the country.
This incident is part of a broader process. While the world’s attention is focused on the war in the Middle East and its political, military, and economic repercussions, the United States is intensifying its pressure on Cuba.
The current situation in Cuba is already extremely difficult. Russia is preoccupied with its ongoing conflict with Ukraine, which began in 2012, and has limited options for support. China, as is its custom, prefers to wait and see. Venezuela, Havana’s traditional ally, is grappling with its own crisis following the US invasion earlier this year.
In this situation, Washington can gamble on achieving a strategic outcome: bringing Cuba back into the American sphere of influence.
For the United States, this would represent a significant geopolitical and propaganda victory.
If the conflict with Iran escalates, success on the Cuban front would allow the American public to claim another foreign policy triumph, positively impacting President Donald Trump’s standing, which has reached its lowest point in recent memory.
Therefore, pressure on the island is likely to increase at this stage.
If forces within the Cuban elite demonstrate a willingness to negotiate with Washington, the world could witness a significant political shift in Cuba, portrayed as its “return to the Western economic system.” The current international climate presents a historic opportunity for the United States to overthrow the communist regime in Cuba, something successive US administrations have sought to achieve for decades.
It is worth noting that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio comes from a family of Cuban exiles who emigrated to the United States. He is said to harbor a personal hatred for the Cuban regime and is doing everything in his power to persuade the Trump administration to take harsh and decisive action against Cuba, nicknamed the “Island of Freedom” due to its steadfast refusal to submit to American hegemony and abandon its own path.
The island also possesses rare earth minerals, which Trump personally desires to seize by economically strangling Cuba in an attempt to overthrow its ruling regime.
