Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan Praises Sudanese-Saudi Relations

Port Sudan, March 27, 2025

General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, commended the distinguished relations between Sudan and Saudi Arabia during a meeting today with a visiting Saudi delegation. He highlighted the steadfast support of Saudi leadership for Sudan, emphasizing its commitment to standing with the Sudanese people through humanitarian aid, and its dedication to preserving Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and stability.

The Saudi delegation, which included representatives from the Saudi Foreign Ministry, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), and the Saudi Development Fund, is currently on a visit to Sudan.

In a press statement, Ambassador Omar Issa, Acting Undersecretary of Sudan’s Foreign Ministry, stated that the delegation’s visit follows a generous initiative and high-level directives from Saudi leadership. The timing coincides with the liberation of Khartoum from the rebellion’s grip, aiming to assess urgent reconstruction needs after the war and evaluate developmental and service priorities for the upcoming six months.

Ambassador Issa noted that the meeting reviewed immediate service projects Saudi Arabia intends to implement. He added that the delegation held a series of meetings with Sudanese ministers to discuss developmental, agricultural, health, and infrastructure initiatives aimed at facilitating the return of displaced citizens to their homes. He also announced the expected arrival of a delegation from the Saudi Investment Fund in April to explore strategic projects, furthering the mission of the current Saudi delegation.

Ambassador Issa mentioned that the Saudi delegation congratulated General al-Burhan on the Sudanese Armed Forces’ recent victories and the liberation of Khartoum.

For his part, Saudi Ambassador Ali bin Hassan Jafar stated in a press briefing that the visit aligns with directives from Saudi Arabia’s Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and the oversight of the Saudi Foreign Minister. The delegation aims to explore support for urgent relief projects, assess Sudan’s post-war needs, and ensure the provision of essential services over the next six months.

Ambassador Jafar briefed Chairman al-Burhan on the outcomes of the delegation’s meetings with Sudan’s ministerial committee to prepare six-month emergency projects, describing the discussions as “productive and marked by cooperation and responsibility.”

The Saudi Ambassador reaffirmed the Kingdom’s support for Sudan and its legitimate government, expressing hope for peace, stability, and development in the country. He stated, “The developmental and service projects proposed by the Sudanese side will be prioritized by Saudi leadership and implemented effectively.”
