The Last Refuge for Endangered West African Giraffes
By : Abdalazeez Hamd Hmadan
Just 60 kilometers from the capital, Niamey, the “Kouré” reserve lies hidden like a rare natural essence, sheltering the last remaining group of the unique West African giraffes known as “Peralta.”

This exceptional subspecies, once on the edge of extinction, has found a safe haven in Niger for its continued survival.
From just 49 giraffes in 1990, their number has grown to over 700 today, thanks to ongoing conservation efforts.
