Malaysia is preparing to host a summit between the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China on May 26 and 27, scheduled to be held in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.
The summit aims to strengthen strategic relations between the GCC, ASEAN and China, including economic and regional cooperation, and will also address issues such as mutual tariffs imposed by the US administration, reflecting Malaysia’s role in forming a multilateral framework for economic, political and cultural cooperation between these countries.
According to the Malaysian news agency, Malaysia seeks to establish itself as a neutral space amid increasing geopolitical tensions, and this was confirmed by the prime minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, who said: “strengthening relations with China, the Gulf Cooperation Council(GCC), (BRICS), and other emerging economies, is not about choosing one party at the expense of another, but is aimed at ensuring the strategic importance of (ASEAN) in a multipolar world.
This year, Malaysia is chairing the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), consisting of 10 countries, and the countries of Southeast Asia, which depend on exports, have been affected by the imposition of high customs duties-affecting 6 out of 10 countries in the region – ranging from 32% to 49%.
Malaysia benefits from its chairmanship of ASEAN (2025), in order to strengthen strategic relations with the GCC countries and China, strengthen the centrality of “ASEAN”, and expressed its readiness to host the inaugural Asean economic summit with the leaders of the Gulf and China.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced:
At the invitation of the president of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, Premier Li Qiang will pay an official visit to Indonesia from May 24 to 26.
At the invitation of Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim, the rotating chairman of ASEAN, Prime Minister Li Qiang will attend the ASEAN – GCC – China summit in Kuala Lumpur from May 26 to 28.
China’s participation is the most prominent at this summit
After China recently released key economic data for April, “exceeding expectations” became the first reaction of many industry insiders, and some foreign media commented that “China has managed to avoid an economic slowdown amid trade disputes”.
Any form of containment or repression has not and will not be able to disrupt China’s innovation, development and independent growth. It was this self-confidence and independence that enabled the Chinese economy to perform “beyond expectations” in April .
Therefore, according to recent data, such as Trump’s foolish decisions, China represents a real economic power that the summit members can benefit from and translate the summit’s outputs into actual results on The الواقع reality through joint cooperation advocated by the powerful President Xi Jinping .
