Ambassador Adawy: Claims of Sudanese Government Requesting Restrictions on Sudanese Presence in Egypt are “Illusions”
General Imad al-Din Adawy, Sudan’s Ambassador to Cairo, stated that allegations suggesting the Sudanese government requested a tightening of restrictions on Sudanese nationals in Egypt are mere “illusions.”
In a press conference held today at the embassy premises in the Fifth Settlement, he urged Sudanese nationals in Egypt to adhere to the laws and regulations governing migration. He noted that every state has the right to issue its own laws regarding refugees, emphasizing the importance of compliance with those regulations.
The Ambassador revealed Sudan’s appreciation for the Egyptian government’s laws and decisions concerning foreign presence on its territory, including Sudanese nationals. He pointed out that the Egyptian government has taken into account the large Sudanese presence following the war, touching upon the exceptional brotherly relations between Sudan and Egypt.
He clarified that the security measures currently witnessed in Egypt do not specifically target the Sudanese presence, but rather all foreign presence. He further explained that the Sudanese presence in Egypt amounts to six million people.
Ambassador Adawy extended his thanks and appreciation to the government and people of the Arab Republic of Egypt for the continuous communication through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its ongoing cooperation regarding issues facing the Sudanese community. He highlighted the embassy’s efforts in coordinating with Egyptian authorities and proposing various solutions and remedies to the crisis.
Regarding voluntary return operations, he stated that the embassy’s role is limited to coordinating initiatives for Sudanese nationals wishing to return home.
He also discussed the Egyptian state’s residency regulations, noting that the embassy’s role involves oversight and coordination regarding these regulations to address “irregularities” in the Sudanese presence.
The Ambassador touched upon the embassy’s role in coordinating with the Egyptian side to release a large number of Sudanese prisoners in Egypt by paying their fines and returning them to the country, noting that the number of prisoners does not exceed 400.
