Irrigation Minister Discusses with Netherlands Ambassador the Rehabilitations of Jazeera Scheme Infrastructure

Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Prof Yassir Abbas has received in his officer H.E. the Ambassador of Netherlands where important issues and improving relations were discussed.

The Minister briefed the Ambassador on the process of GERD negotiations and the hardline stance of Ethiopia and its insistence to continue in the second filling of the dam, affirming Sudan’s rejection to any unilateral step from the Ethiopian side without reaching a legal agreement between the parties of the negotiations, considering the negative effects on the operation of Roseries reservoir and the rest of the reservoirs in Sudan besides its threatening to the inhabitants living along the Blue Nile River banks.

The meeting also discussed the projects funded by the Netherlands and the possibility of rehabilitating the essential irrigation infrastructure in the Jazeera Scheme, and the participation of Netherland companies in removing the silt and grasses operations.

Prof. Yassir expressed appreciation to the Netherlands government for the chance it availed for training and capacity-building.

For his part, the Training and Capacity-building Director in the Ministry of Irrigation, Dr. Khalid Al-Nour urged the Netherlands embassy to intervene to ease the remittance of the Netherlands grant amounting to one million Euros to Sudan via the Netherlands banking system.
