
Sovereignty Council VP: We Are Committed to Promoting and Developing Human Rights in the Country

Khartoum 04/06/2022 – General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, Vice-President of the Sovereign Council met today, the independent expert on human rights in Sudan, Mr. Adama Diang.
General Dagalo welcomed the independent expert on his second visit to the country, wishing him success in his mission.
He gave the independent expert a full explanation of the government’s efforts in this field, in light of the political and economic developments in the country.

General Dagalo affirmed their commitment to cooperate with all United Nations mechanisms and the Human Rights Council to promote and develop human rights in the country, calling for the importance of cooperation with Sudan in a way that enhances national efforts that contribute to achieving stability in all fields, indicating their interest in following up on the implementation of all recommendations related to upgrading the human rights situation in the country, as well as following up on issues and developments that occur from time to time throughout Sudan.

For his part, the independent expert to follow up on human rights in Sudan, Adama Diang, welcomed the government’s decision to lift the state of emergency and release detainees, describing the decision as a good step in the direction of preparing the internal environment for dialogue, calling on all parties to urgently end the current political situation, which he said negatively affect the economic and human rights conditions, and indicated that he urged the international community, through the ambassadors accredited to Sudan, to provide support and assistance to Sudan, stressing that Sudan is one of the most important countries in the region due to its great potential, stressing that only the Sudanese can open a new page and the return of their country to its natural place at the forefront of countries.
