Statement from the European Union on June 30th

Press Release

The demonstrations planned for 30th June are an important opportunity for the Sudanese authorities, all political stakeholders, and the people of Sudan. It is a moment to affirm their commitment to the transition of Sudan towards democracy.

France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and the EU Delegation called upon the Sudanese authorities to guarantee freedom of expression. Moreover, it is essential for protests to remain peaceful and protected by security forces.

In pursuit of the all-important goal of achieving a peaceful democratic transition in the country, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and the EU Delegation look to all actors to support the efforts of the tripartite initiative of UN, AU, and IGAD to facilitate and participate actively and constructively in an inclusive dialogue.

This is the only sustainable way out of the current crisis, leading to achieving freedom, peace, and justice for all.
