Volker Türk to visit Sudan in current November


Geneva) – The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, is due to arrive the country on an official visit, the first of its kind to any country in the world since he assumed his position as Commissioner for Human Rights. The visit begins on November 13 and ends on November 16, during which the High Commissioner is scheduled to meet with General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, and a number of senior officials.

He will also meet with representatives of the National Commission for Human Rights and civil society institutions, including women and youth groups, as well as representatives of United Nations agencies and regional organizations.

He will also visit the city of El Fasher in North Darfur state and meet officials of the regional government, representatives of the displaced and civil society organizations. The High Commissioner, Mr. Turk, will conclude his visit by holding a press conference in Khartoum on Wednesday 16 November at 1:00 pm local time.

The invitation to the conference will be limited to accredited journalists, while a media invitation will be issued at the local level that includes all the details related to the conference and instructions for its attendance.
