Statement from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs
France strongly condemns the attacks carried out by the Rapid Support Forces on the Zamzam and Abu Shouk displacement camps in North Darfur State, Sudan, which resulted in numerous casualties among civilians and humanitarian workers. The perpetrators of these crimes must be held accountable.
In line with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2736, the Rapid Support Forces must immediately lift their siege on the city of El Fasher, as it poses catastrophic humanitarian consequences.
France reiterates its call for an immediate cessation of hostilities across the country and urges all parties to honor their commitments to protect civilians and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, in accordance with their obligations under international humanitarian law.
One year after the Paris Conference, the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jean-Noël Barrot, will co-chair the London Conference on Sudan on April 15, 2025, to continue France’s efforts in restoring peace in Sudan.
