Diplomacy of the Foreign Minister

By: Al-Sammani Awadallah

The proverb says: “Leave the bread to its baker, even if he eats half of it.” This proverb applies perfectly to the case of Foreign Minister Dr. Ali Yousef Al-Sharif, whom the government has appointed to this very important ministry at this time.
He is a diplomat of a unique caliber, knowing the paths and alleys of diplomacy thanks to his extensive experience in diplomatic work.

I do not wish to delve into the important milestones in Ambassador Ali Yousef’s career as Sudan’s ambassador, as these are well-known to most observers of Sudanese diplomatic work. However, I wanted to delve into the movement Al-Sharif created in Sudanese diplomacy during the short period in which he served as minister.

Minister Ali Yousef Al-Sharif created a broad and positive movement on Sudanese issues and was able to win the positions of many countries that had remained neutral toward Sudan after April 15, 2023.
He was able to lead the Ministry of Foreign Affairs toward correcting its course and returning Sudan to the countries that should be considered.

Minister Al-Sharif’s tenure has witnessed many important milestones, most notably securing the support of key countries for the parallel government that the Rapid Support Forces militia and its allies are seeking to form as a form of pressure on the government to submit to some of the militia’s backers’ conditions. Sudan is also one step away from regaining its membership in the African Union, which was suspended due to interference by countries unrelated to the African continent.

Additionally, the minister maintains an open-door policy, aware of what he is saying and reading the intentions of those who knock on his door seeking entry.
He is also open to the media, which is the weapon of the current century, given that the war in Sudan is a carefully planned and meticulously orchestrated media war.

Minister Youssef has continued to tour important foreign locations that have had a significant positive impact on the Sudanese issue, the most recent of which was the recent UNSC statement, which explicitly condemned the Rapid Support Forces militia.
Furthermore, the Western media, which was previously oblivious to what was happening in Sudan, now possesses the true information due to the minister’s continued efforts.

An important point awaits the Minister of Foreign Affairs, which is the implementation of changes for some ambassadors in some important stations who were not up to the challenge. Implementing changes and transfers in those embassies may bring about a more positive breakthrough, the results of which will have a significant impact on the issue of Sudan.
