Supporting continued occupation and the use of civilians as hostages means supporting the continuation of the war

Groups supporting the Rapid Support Forces (#RSF) militia and the United Arab Emirates (#UAE), under the banner of the Somoud alliance, are pushing a cynical plan to make the RSF’s control over the areas it occupies seem normal and acceptable in order to use this control as a bargaining chip to gain political power, threatening to split Sudan apart if they don’t get their way—much like what happened in #Libya and is happening now in #Yemen. This UAE-backed plan isn’t new, it’s the same old playbook of repeated interference.
Getting the militia out of civilian areas isn’t a negotiating point—it’s a legal and moral requirement to protect people from RSF’s ongoing violations, from Geneina to Khartoum, and from Al Jazirah to ElFasher. These political forces want Sudanese people to forget these crimes, accept them as normal, and live under their control. If they truly cared about the safety of the Sudanese people, they would support this basic demand to protect civilians instead of making excuses for the RSF militia’s continued control, repression, and use of civilians as hostages.
Supporting continued occupation and the use of civilians as hostages means supporting the continuation of the war waged by the militia—a war that has caused the world’s worst humanitarian crises, a crisis borne entirely by the Sudanese people.
Keep your hands off the people of Sudan and focus on enjoying your lives in Abu Dhabi or any other capital. The Sudanese people want nothing more than to live safely in their own land and country.
